I strongly suspect the one from 1922 is, since that seems to be the cutoff date for copyright if made in the US. If it was made is some other country then you're back to square 1.

Actually, as long as it's before 1923, it doesn't matter where it was made originally, it's public domain in the united states.

This nonsense, however, with foreign copyrights being renewed on expired/never copyrighted works in the US like Metropolis, however, is sickening -- that's the stuff you've got to watch out for.
